Agriwatch: Agri commodities index down 0.2% today

The Agri Commodities Index fringe down 0.20% to 115.90 during the week ended Oct 1, 2016 from 116.13 during the previous week. The basis for the Index and all sub-Indices is 2014 (= 100). Declines in cereals and vegetables prices offset the gains in pulses and edible oils. 

Six of the nine commodity groups and 19 of the 29 commodities that constitute the Index declined during the week. The commodity group sub-Index values and their weekly changes are as follows: Cereals: 101.83 (-1.34%), Pulses: 216.70 (+4.40%), Vegetables: 62.30 (-4.85%), Edible Oils: 116.0 (+0.68%), Oilseeds: 107.67 (-1.83%), Sweeteners (Sugar, Gur & Khandsari): 121.96 (-0.48%), Spices: 135.90 (-0.83%), Fibres: 98.82 (-3.23%) and Other Non-Food Articles: 77.57 (+2.25%).

Mustard Seed Ends Lower As Demand Weakens

MustardSeed prices closed lower by 0.77 per cent on Wednesday at the National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange Limited (NCDEX) as a result of the profit booking by the traders on account of the weak crushing and export demand of mustard meal. At the NCDEX, Mustard Seed futures for Sept 2015 contract closed at Rs. 4,236 per quintal, down by 0.77 per cent, after opening at Rs. 4,273 against the previous closing price of Rs. 4,269. It touched the intra-day low of Rs. 4,228.

Sentiment weakened further due to the sluggish export demand as a result of the weak demand for the commodity.

EU-27 accounts to about 34 per cent of worlds RM seed production, others major producers are China (23 %), Canada (19 % ), India (14 % ), Australia (3 % ), Ukraine (2 % ). India produces 5.5 million MT to7 million MT annually.

Barley Ends Lower On Downbeat Demand

Barley prices closed lower by 1.28 per cent on Tuesday at the National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange Limited (NCDEX) as the investors booked profits at the higher on account of the weak physical markets and also due to the fall in the demand from beer and cattle-feed makers. At the NCDEX, barley futures for September 2015 contract closed at Rs. 1,197.5 per quintal, down by 1.28 per cent, after opening at Rs. 1,210 against the previous closing price of Rs. 1,213. It touched the intra-day low of Rs. 1,184.
 
Sentiment weakened further on account of a surge in the arrivals of the commodity along with the sluggish demand on higher levels.
 
Barley is a cereal grain derived from the annual grass Hordeum vulgare. This widely adaptable crop is popular in temperate areas where it is grown as a summer crop and tropical areas where it is sown as a winter crop.

Chana Prices Closed Higher 0.53 percent on Thursday

Chana prices closed higher 0.53 percent on Thursday at the National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange Limited (NCDEX) as the traders enlarged their holdings in the commodity on account of the good demand in the market. At the NCDEX, chana futures for September 2015 contract closed at Rs. 4,760 per quintal, up by 0.53 per cent, after opening at Rs. 4,731 against the previous closing price of Rs. 4,735. It touched the intra-day high of Rs. 4,809.

Moreover, the restricted arrivals of the commodity in the physical market due to lower estimated output also influenced the chana prices.India is the largest producer of chickpea followed by Pakistan, Turkey and Iran. India produces around 6 to 8 million tonnes and contributes around 70 per cent of the total world production.
 
At the NCDEX, chana futures for September 2015 contract closed at Rs. 4,731 per quintal, down by 1.89 per cent, after opening at Rs. 4,830 against the previous closing price of Rs. 4,822. It touched the intra-day low of Rs. 4,697. India is the largest producer of chickpea followed by Pakistan, Turkey and Iran. India produces around 6 to 8 million tonnes and contributes around 70 per cent of the total world production.

Commodity Updates : Mustard Seed prices closed lower by 1.35 per cent on Friday at the National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange Limited (NCDEX) as a result of the profit booking by the traders on account of the weak crushing and export demand of mustard meal. At the NCDEX, Mustard Seed futures for July 2015 contract closed at Rs. 4,174 per quintal, down by 1.35 per cent, after opening at Rs. 4,237 against the previous closing price of Rs. 4,231. It touched the intra-day low of Rs. 4,151.


Barley prices closed lower by 0.82 per cent on Friday at the National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange Limited (NCDEX) as the investors booked profits at the higher on account of the weak physical markets and also due to the fall in the demand from beer and cattle-feed makers. At the NCDEX, barley futures for July 2015 contract closed at Rs. 1,208.5 per quintal, down by 0.82 per cent, after opening at Rs. 1,217 against the previous closing price of Rs. 1,218.5. It touched the intra-day low of Rs. 1,206.

Mcx Commodity Tips : Chana prices closed lower by 1.3 per cent on Tuesday at the National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange Limited (NCDEX) as a result of the steady sowing progress of pulses along with high supplies in major producing states. At NCDEX, chana futures for June 2015 contract closed at Rs. 4,712 per quintal, down by 1.3 per cent, after opening at Rs. 4,755 against the previous closing price of Rs. 4,712. It touched the intra-day low of Rs. 4,644.

Jeera prices closed lower by 0.89 per cent on Tuesday at the National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange Limited (NCDEX) on account of a surge in the supply from the producing regions in the midst of a decline in the export demand. At the NCDEX, jeera futures for June 2015 contract closed at Rs. 17,790 per quintal, down by 0.89 per cent, after opening at Rs. 18,100 against the previous closing price of Rs. 17,950. Agro Outlook Updates and Tips for 1 June 2015

Mcx commodity tips : Jeera prices closed higher by 0.8 % on Friday at the National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange Limited (NCDEX) as the investors increased their holdings in the commodity in the midst limited arrivals from growing regions. At NCDEX, jeera futures for June 2015 contract closed at Rs. 17,545 per quintal, up by 0.8 per cent, after opening at Rs. 17,480 against the previous closing price of Rs. 17,405. It touched the intra-day maximum of Rs. 17,670.

Maize prices ended lower by 0.26 per cent on Friday at the National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange Limited (NCDEX) as a result of heavy selling activity by the traders on account of higher global supplies and weak offtakes from the local buyers. At NCDEX, maize futures for June 2015 contract closed at Rs. 1,153 per quintal, down by 0.26 per cent, after opening at Rs. 1,155 against the previous ending price of Rs. 1,156. It touched the intra-day low-lying of Rs. 1,153.

Mcx commodity tips : Chana prices closed higher 1.12 per cent on Wednesday at the National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange Limited (NCDEX) as the traders enlarged their holdings in the commodity on account of the good demand in the market. At NCDEX, chana futures for June 2015 contract closed at Rs. 4,675 / quintal, up by 1.12 per cent, after opening at Rs. 4,630 against the previous closing price of Rs. 4,623. It touched the intra-day high of Rs. 4,675. 

Jeera prices closed lower by 0.06 per cent on Wednesday at the National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange Limited (NCDEX) on account of a surge in the supply from the producing regions in the midst of a decline in the export demand. At the NCDEX, jeera futures for July 2015 contract closed at Rs. 17,900 per quintal, down by 0.06 per cent, after opening at Rs. 17,860 against the previous closing price of Rs. 17,910. It touched the intra-day low of Rs. 17,855.

MCX COMMODITY TIPS: Barley prices closed higher by 0.63 per cent on Thursday at the National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange Limited (NCDEX) as a result of strong demand from beer and cattle-feed making industries against restricted supply in physical markets. At NCDEX, barley futures for June 2015 contract closed at Rs. 1,272.5 per quintal, up by 0.63 per cent, after opening at Rs. 1,265 against the previous closing price of Rs. 1,264.5. It touched the intra-day high of Rs. 1,278.


Chana prices closed lower by 0.23 per cent on Thursday at the National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange Limited (NCDEX) as a result of the steady sowing progress of pulses along with high supplies in major producing states. At NCDEX, chana futures for June 2015 contract closed at Rs. 4,694 per quintal, down by 0.23 per cent, after opening at Rs. 4,700 against the previous closing price of Rs. 4,705. It touched the intra-day low of Rs. 4,667.

Gold prices fell by Rs 110 to Rs 31,040 per ten grams in the national capital today on profitselling by stockists at existing higher levels amid a weak global trend.

However, silver gained for the third straight day by adding Rs 60 to Rs 45,060 per kg on increased offtake by industrial units and coin makers.

Traders said profit-selling by stockists at existing higher levels amid a weak global trend as congressional negotiators reached a US budget agreement, curbing the appeal of the metal as a safe haven, mainly influenced gold prices.

Gold in New York, which normally sets price trend on the domestic front, fell by 0.3 per cent to USD 1,257.20 an ounce last night.

On the domestic front, gold of 99.9 and 99.5 per cent purity fell by Rs 110 each to Rs 31,040 and Rs 30,840 per ten grams, respectively. It had gained Rs 425 yesterday. Sovereign held steady at Rs 25,300 per piece of eight gram. On the other hand, silver ready rose by Rs 60 to Rs 45,060 per kg and weekly-based delivery by similar margin to Rs 45,660 per kg. The white metal had gained Rs 1,530 in the previous two sessions.

Silver coins continued to be asked at last level of Rs 85,000 for buying and Rs 86,000 for selling of 100 pieces.

Nickel prices moved up by 0.65 per cent to Rs 872.30 per kg in futures trade today as speculators 
created fresh positions, supported by rising demand from alloy-makers in the spot market amid a firm 
global trend.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, nickel for delivery in December rose by Rs 5.60, or 0.65 per cent, to Rs 872.30 per kg in a business turnover of 6,722 lots.

Similarly, the metal for delivery in January moved up by Rs 4.50, or 0.51 per cent, to Rs 879.50 per kg in 614 lots.

Analysts attributed the rise in nickel futures to a firm global trend as major smelters in Japan plan to 
seek alternative ore supplies amid mounting concerns over Indonesian shipments.

Meanwhile, nickel for delivery in three months gained one per cent to $14,175 a tonne on the London 
Metal Exchange.

Mentha oil prices extended gains by adding 0.38 per cent to Rs 3.20 per kg in futures trade today on the back of increased domestic as well as exports demand.

Besides, reports of lower output this season also influenced the prices, traders said.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, Mentha oil for delivery in December rose by Rs 3.20, or 0.38 per cent, to Rs 841 per kg, clocking a business volume of 256 lots. The oil for January contract traded higher by Rs 3, or 0.35 per cent, to Rs 852.90 per kg, with a trading volume of 61 lots.Potato prices fell by 1.19 per cent to Rs 913 per quintal in futures trade today as speculators offloaded their positions due to low demand in spot markets.

The trading sentiment weakened further as a result of easy availability of potato in the spot markets following fresh arrivals from producing regions.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, potato prices for April contract fell by Rs 11, or 1.19 per cent, to Rs 913 per quintal, with a business volume of 24 lots.

Gold prices rose 0.14 per cent to Rs 30,175 per ten grams in futures trade today as speculators created positions, tracking a firm overseas trend. 
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, gold for delivery in December rose Rs 42, or 0.14 per cent, to Rs 30,175 per ten grams in business turnover of 2,013 lots. 
Similarly, the metal for delivery in February gained Rs 22, or 0.08 per cent, to Rs 29,325 per ten grams in 342 lots. 
Analysts attributed the rise in gold futures to a firm global trend on speculation that the decline to a four-month low may encourage purchases, while investors assessed the timing of a reduction in stimulus by the Federal Reserve. 
Meanwhile, gold gained 0.3 per cent to USD 1,246.75 an ounce in Singapore.

The trend in gold futures for December delivery on India's Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) looks sideways to bearish for the day and intra-day traders are advised to sell on rise. MCX gold futures was seen trading with a gain of 0.13 at Rs.30090 per 10 grams as of 16.08 IST on Tuesday.

Gold prices continued their weakness in the global market and were seen trading almost steady amid weak physical demand, strengthening equity markets. Meanwhile, India gold futures remained almost steady tracking weak global cues and on appreciation of Indian Rupee against US Dollar.

Comex gold futures for December delivery was seen trading with a gain of $1 at $1273.3 per troy ounce as of 16.07 IST while the futures on India's Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) was seen trading with a gain of 0.13 at Rs.30090 per 10 grams as of 16.08 IST on Tuesday.

              Copper prices rose by 0.08 per cent on Tuesday at the domestic markets after German economic sentiment improved more-than-expected in November, rising to the highest level since October 2009 raising the demand outlook for the industrial metal. ZEW Centre for Economic Research said that its index of German economic sentiment rose by 1.8 points to hit 54.6 in November from October’s reading of 52.8. At the MCX, copper futures for November 2013 contract were trading at Rs. 433.40 per 1 kg, up by 0.08 per cent, after opening at Rs. 432.40 against the previous closing price of Rs. 433.05. It touched the intra-day high of Rs. 433.80 till the trading. (At 4.20 PM today). Sentiment improved further due to the decline in the copper stockpiles at the London Metal Exchange (LME) on account of the strong demand for the commodity. LME copper stocks fell by 1300 metric tonnes to 447650 metric tonnes as on November 19, 2013.

            Crude oil prices rose by 0.14 per cent on Tuesday at the domestic markets as a probable decline in US crude oil stockpiles last week may signal a pickup in fuel demand in the world’s biggest crude oil consuming nation. US crude oil stockpiles may have declined 1 million barrels last week, according to
analysts’ estimates ahead of Energy Department data. At the MCX, crude oil futures for November 2013 contract were trading at Rs. 5,781 per barrel, up by 0.14 per cent, after opening at Rs. 5,773 against the previous closing price of Rs. 5,773. It touched the intra-day high of Rs. 5,794 till the trading. (At 4.45 PM today). Sentiment improved further after ZEW Centre for Economic Research said that its index of German economic sentiment rose by 1.8 points to hit 54.6 in November from October’s reading of 52.8 in turn raising the demand outlook for the fuel.

Gold futures prices today fell by 0.36 per cent to Rs 29,678 per 10 gram as speculators engaged in trimming positions, tracking a weak trend overseas.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, gold prices for delivery in December fell by Rs 108, or 0.36 per cent, to Rs 29,678 per 10 gram in business turnover of 253 lots.

Similarly, metal prices for delivery in October declined by Rs 99, or 0.33 per cent, to Rs 29,775 per ten gram in 2,235 lots.

Meanwhile, gold prices fell 0.4 per cent to settle at USD 1,327 an ounce in New York yesterday.

Silver prices fell by 0.93 per cent to trade at Rs 50,004 per kg in futures trade today as participants engaged in reducing their positions amid a weakening trend in the global markets.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, silver for delivery in far-month March down Rs 471, or 0.93 per cent, to Rs 50,004 per kg in a business turnover of 22 lots.

In a similar fashion, the white metal for delivery in December traded lower by Rs 384, or 0.78 per cent, at Rs 49,009 per kg in 3,133 lots. Meanwhile, silver fell by 0.25 per cent to 21.59 dollar an ounce in Singapore today.

Nickel prices moved down by 0.85 per cent to Rs 868.20 per kg in futures trade today due to sluggish demand from alloy-makers in the spot market amid a weak global trend.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, nickel for delivery in September declined by Rs 7.40, or 0.85 per cent to Rs 868.20 per kg in a turnover of 1,228 lots.

Similarly, the metal for delivery in October traded lower by Rs 6.80, or 0.77 per cent to Rs 878.20 per kg in 143 lots.
Globally, nickel slid 1.30 per cent to USD 13,885.00 a tonne on the London Metal Exchange (LME).

Crude oil futures price today fell 0.42 per cent to Rs 6,609 per barrel, as speculators trimmed positions amid a mixed trend in Asian trade.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, crude oil for delivery in October fell by Rs 28, or 0.42 per
cent, to Rs 6,609 per barrel in 3,708 lots.

In a likewise manner, oil for November moved down by Rs 20, or 0.30 per cent, to Rs 6,604 per
barrel in 278 lots.

Meanwhile, West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude for November delivery was down 4 cents to USD 104.71 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange in mid-morning trade today.

Coriander prices fell by Rs 140 to Rs 5,550 per quintal in futures trade today as speculators reduced their positions on the back of sluggish demand amid sufficient supply in the spot market.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, coriander prices for delivery in November fell by Rs 140, or 2.46 per cent, to Rs 5,550 per quintal with open interest of 5,480 lots.

The price for October delivery declined by Rs 120, or 2.16 per cent to Rs 5,426 per quintal with open interest of 20,670 lots.

Mentha oil prices fell by 0.83 per cent to Rs 877.10 per kg in futures trade today as speculators booked profits at prevailing higher levels amid a weak demand in the spot market.

Adequate stocks position in the physical market following increased arrivals from Chandousi in Uttar Pradesh also fuelled the downtrend in mentha oil prices.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, mentha oil for delivery in October fell by Rs 7.40, or 0.83 per cent, to Rs 877.10 per kg, with a business turnover of Rs 123 lots.

Similarly, the oil for delivery in September declined by Rs 7.10, or 0.81 per cent, to Rs 862.50 per kg in 153 lots.

Marketmen attributed the fall in mentha oil futures to profit-booking by speculators after recent gains and a weak industrial demand in the spot market.

The prices of both precious metals, gold and silver, fell further in the national capital today onsustained selling by stockists on the back of sluggish demand amid a weak global trend.
While gold plunged by Rs 280 to Rs 30,500 per ten gram in continuation with a loss of Rs 30 yesterday, silver dropped by Rs 1,600 to Rs 49,500 per kg after easing Rs 100 in the previous session on poor offtake by jewellers and industrial units.
Gold in overseas markets, which normally set price trend on the domestic front, fell by 2.7 per cent to USD 1,332.50 an ounce, the biggest drop since July 5. Silver fell 5.9 per cent to USD 21.92 an ounce, the biggest drop since June 20.
On the domestic front, gold of 99.9 and 99.5 per cent purity plunged by Rs 280 each to Rs 30,500 and Rs 30,300 per ten gram, respectively. It had shed Rs 30 yesterday.
Sovereign followed suit and declined by Rs 100 to 25,100 per piece of eight gram. Silver ready and weekly-based delivery tumbled by Rs 1,600 each to Rs 49,500 per kg, respectively. The white metal had lost Rs 100 in last trade.Silver coins also dropped by Rs 1000 to Rs 85,000 for buying and Rs 86,000 for selling of 100 pieces.

speculators reduced holdings amid sluggish demand in the spot market against adequate
supplies.
At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, chana for delivery in October fell by Rs
17, or 0.54 per cent to Rs 3,141 per quintal with an open interest of 1,58,340 lots.
Likewise, the commodity for delivery in September declined by Rs 12 or 0.39 per cent to Rs
3,056 per quintal in 2,970 lots.
Amid rising demand and restricted arrivals from producing regions, Cardamom prices rose for
the second day by adding 0.30 per cent to Rs 813.40 per kg in futures trade today as speculators
enlarged their positions.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, cardamom for deliv ery in November gained Rs 2.40, or 0.30per cent to Rs 813.40 per kg in business turnover of 4 lots.
Similarly, the spice for delivery in October edged up by 40 paise, or 0.05 per cent to Rs 775.30

Silver regained Rs 52,000 per kg level today in futures trade as prices climbed 2.76 cent to Rs 52,097 per kg, taking positive cues from the global market after the US Federal Reserve decided to keep its stimulus programme intact.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, silver prices for delivery in March contracts rose sharply by Rs 1,398, or 2.76 per cent, to trade at Rs 52,097 per kg, in business turnover of 41 lots. The white metal prices for delivery in December too zoomed by Rs 1,406, or 2.84 per cent, to Rs 50,983 per kg in a turnover of 1,240 lots.

Market analysts said speculative positions created by participants following gains in the precious metals overseas in response to a surprise decision by the US Federal Reserve to keep its massive stimulus programme intact, mainly influenced silver prices at futures trade here.

Besides, a hike in import duty on gold and silver jewellery by 5 per cent to 15 per cent by the government on Tuesday supported the upside, they said.

Globally, silver gained 0.8 per cent to $ 23.13 an ounce in Singapore today after soaring 5.5 percent yesterday.

Crude oil futures prices on Thursday moved down by 1.93 per cent to Rs 6,701 per barrel after speculators reduced positions amid strengthening rupee.

However, a firming trend in the Asian region after the US Federal Reserve kept its huge monetary stimulus programme for the economy intact, capped the losses.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, crude oil for delivery in October fell by Rs 132 or 1.93 per
cent, to Rs 6,701 per barrel in 1,813 lots.

Oil for September delivery shed Rs 108 or 1.58 per cent to Rs 6,715 per barrel in a turnover of
2,340 lots.

Analysts said the fall in crude oil at futures trade was mostly attributed to rise in the rupee's value, making dollar-quoted crude cheaper but a firming trend in the Asian region, limited the losses.

The rupee zoomed by 158 paise to trade at over one-month high of 61.80 against the dollar. Meanwhile, West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude for October delivery added 52 cents to USD 108.59 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange in mid-morning trade today.

speculators reduced holdings amid sluggish demand in the spot market against adequate supplies.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, chana for delivery in October fell by Rs 17, or 0.54 per cent to Rs 3,141 per quintal with an open interest of 1,58,340 lots.

Likewise, the commodity for delivery in September declined by Rs 12 or 0.39 per cent to Rs 3,056 per quintal in 2,970 lots.

Amid rising demand and restricted arrivals from producing regions, Cardamom prices rose for the second day by adding 0.30 per cent to Rs 813.40 per kg in futures trade today as speculators enlarged their positions.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, cardamom for delivery in November gained Rs 2.40, or 0.30 per cent to Rs 813.40 per kg in business turnover of 4 lots.

Similarly, the spice for delivery in October edged up by 40 paise, or 0.05 per cent to Rs 775.30 per kg in 238 lots.

Gold prices fell 0.87 per cent to Rs 29,465 per 10 gm in futures trade today, as participants reduced their positions largely in tandem with a weak overseas trend.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, gold for delivery in October contract eased by Rs 258, or 0.87 per cent, to Rs 29,465 per 10 gm in business turnover of 278 lots.
Likewise, the metal for delivery in far-month December shed Rs 170, or 0.78 per cent, to Rs 29,340 per 10 gm in 22 lots.
Silver prices fell by 1.49 per cent to Rs 48,666 per kg in futures trade today as speculators indulged in trimming positions, taking weak cues from the global markets.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, silver for delivery in December traded lower by Rs 735 or 1.49 per cent, to Rs 48,666 per kg in business turnover of 470 lots.
Similarly, the white metal for delivery in March declined by Rs 617, or 1.22 per cent, to Rs 49,883 per kg in business volume of 4 lots.

Copper prices rose 0.22 per cent to Rs 457.60 per kg in futures trade on Thursday as speculators enlarged positions, largely in tune with a firm overseas trend, amid rising demand in spot market.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, copper for delivery in November traded higher by Re one,
or 0.22 per cent, to Rs 457.60 per kg in business turnover of 8,180 lots.
The metal for delivery in far-month February edged up by 45 paise, or 0.10 per cent, to Rs
467.35 per kg in 277 lots.
Globally, copper for delivery in three months on the London Metal Exchange rose 0.3 per cent to $ 7,094.75 a tonne.
Market analysts said apart from increased demand at domestic spot markets from consuming
industries, a firming overseas trend before the US Federal Reserve concludes a two-day meeting today when policy makers will decide whether to slow its monthly bond-buying programme, influenced copper futures here.

Gold futures prices today fell by 1.06 per cent to Rs 31,291 per 1 0 grams as speculators offloaded their positions in tandem with a weak global trend amid strengthening rupee.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, gold prices for delivery in far-month December fell by Rs 334, or 1.06 per cent, to Rs 31,291 per 10 grams in business turnover of 92 lots.
Similarly, metal prices for delivery in October declined by Rs 327, or 1.04 per cent, to Rs 31,213 per ten grams in 1,269 lots.
Market analysts said the fall in gold futures was mostly attributed to a weak trend overseas on speculation that the US Federal Reserve will start to pare stimulus from next week, and as a bid to avert military action in Syria eroded haven demand.
Besides, strengthening rupee, making imports of dollar-quoted precious metal cheaper, also helped gold to trade lower, they said.
Meanwhile, gold prices fell 0.8 per cent to USD 1,375.81 an ounce in Singapore.

Amid a weak trend overseas and profit-booking by speculators, copper prices fell by 0.86 per cent to Rs 478.50 per kg in futures trade today.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, copper for delivery in February month fell by Rs 4.15, or 0.86 per cent, to Rs 478.50 per kg in business turnover of 64 lots.
Similarly, the metal for delivery in November traded lower by Rs 4, or 0.84 per cent, to Rs 469.40 per kg in 2,640 lots.
Nickel prices moved down by 1.37 per cent to Rs 892.50 per kg in futures trade today due to sluggish demand from alloy-makers in the spot market amid a weak global trend.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, nickel for delivery in October month declined by Rs 12.40, or 1.37 per cent to Rs 892.50 per kg in a turnover of 60 lots.
Similarly, the metal for delivery in September traded lower by Rs 12.10, or 1.35 per cent to Rs 884.20 per kg in 1,005 lots.
Crude oil futures price today dipped 1.32 per cent to Rs 6,963 per barrel, as speculators trimmed positions at prevailing levels amid a weakening trend in the Asian trade as fears of a possible US-led strike on Syria eased.At the Multi Commodity Exchange, crude oil for delivery in September fell by Rs 93, or 1.32 per cent, to Rs 6,963 per barrel in 3,196 lots.

Soybean prices hardened by Rs 69.50 to Rs 3,561 per quintal in futures trading today on traders' buying on the back of firm overseas markets sentiment.
Marketmen said thin supply and pick up in domestic demand mainly supported the upsurge in futures trade.
At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, soybean prices for far January contract spurted by Rs 69.50, or 1.91 per cent to Rs 3,561 per quintal, with an open interest of 3,090 lots.
Most active near November contract surged by Rs 63.50, or 1.79 per cent to Rs 3,508 per quintal, having an open interest of 1,14,030 lots.
Mentha oil prices edged up by Rs 1.50 to Rs 948.50 per quintal in futures today as speculators enlarged positions after pick up in demand in the spot market.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, mentha oil for delivery in September edged up by Rs 1.50, or 0.16 per cent to Rs 948.50 per kg in business turnover of 619 lots.
Likewise, the oil for delivery in October traded marginally higher by 20 paise, or 0.02 per cent to Rs 962.60 per kg in 85 lots.

Taking weak cues from the global market and profit-booking by speculators, silver futures prices today fell sharply by Rs 1,973, or 3.33 per cent, to Rs 57,260 per kg.
Analysts said a weak trend in the overseas markets on mounting concern over the US Fed scaling back stimulus and profit-booking by speculators after recent gains, weighed on silver futures prices.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, silver prices for delivery in December fell by Rs 1,973, or 3.33 per cent, to Rs 57,260 per kg in business turnover of 3,862 lots.
Similarly, the white metal prices for delivery in September lost Rs 1,831, or 3.20 per cent, at Rs 55,477 per kg in 31 lots.

Meanwhile, silver shed 1.85 per cent to USD 23.83 an ounce in Singapore today.

Tracking a weak trend in base metals overseas and subdued spot demand, zinc futures prices today fell 0.84 per cent to Rs 129.10 per kg as speculators reduced positions.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, zinc prices for delivery in September declined by Rs 1.10, or 0.84 per cent, to Rs 129.10 per kg in business turnover of 227 lots.
Likewise, the metal prices for delivery in October traded lower by Rs 1.05, or 0.80 per cent, to Rs 130.30 per kg in just one lot.
Aluminium prices edged lower by 0.92 per cent to Rs 123.90 per kg in futures trade today as participants trimmed positions, tracking a weak overseas trend.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, aluminium for delivery in October shed Rs 1.15, or 0.92 percent, to Rs 123.90 per kg in business turnover of 20 lots.
Likewise, the metal for delivery in September traded lower by Rs 1.10, or 0.89 per cent, to Rs 122.65 per kg in 242 lots.
Crude oil futures prices today fell by 1.82 per cent to Rs 7,392 per barrel, after speculators reduced exposures amid a mixed trend in Asian trade.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, crude oil for delivery in October fell by Rs 137, or 1.82 percent, to Rs 7,392 per barrel in 1,246 lots.Oil for September delivery moved down by Rs 132, or 1.76 per cent to Rs 7,375 per barrel in a turnover of 12,442 lots.

Gold futures prices today fell by 1.19 per cent to Rs 32,598 per 10 grams as speculators offloaded their positions, taking weak cues from the global market.
Besides, subdued spot demand and profit-booking by speculators also put pressure on gold futures.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, gold prices for delivery in October fell by Rs 390, or 1.19 per cent, to Rs 32,598 per 10 grams in business turnover of 525 lots.
Similarly, metal prices for delivery in the far-month December declined by Rs 370, or 1.12 per cent, to Rs 32,685 per 10 grams in 86 lots.
Silver prices drifted by 0.27 per cent to trade at Rs 55,110 per kg in futures trade today as speculators engaged in reducing exposures.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, silver for delivery in far-month December traded Rs 150, or 0.27 per cent lower at Rs 55,110 per kg in business turnover of 1,860 lots.
In a similar fashion, the white metal for delivery in September fell by Rs 102, or 0.19 per cent lower, at Rs 53,110 per kg in 1,869 lots.

The metal for delivery in far-month February edged up by Rs 1.60, or 0.32 per cent, to Rs 495.30 per kg in 56 lots.
Crude oil futures prices today dipped 2.93 per cent to Rs 7,034 per barrel, as speculators trimmed positions at prevailing levels amid a weakening trend in Asian trade.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, crude oil for delivery in September fell by Rs 212, or 2.93 per cent, to Rs 7,034 per barrel in 5,843 lots.
In a likewise manner, oil for delivery in October moved down by Rs 202, or 2.78 per cent, to Rs 7,267 per barrel in 436 lots.

Turmeric prices fell further by 0.75 per cent to Rs 5,024 per quintal in futures trade today after participants trimmed positions amid higher stocks but export demand limited the fall.
At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, turmeric for delivery in September
declined by Rs 38, or 0.75 per cent, to Rs 5,024 per quintal in an open interest of 15,405 lots.
Similarly, the spice for delivery in October edged lower by Rs 34, or 0.66 per cent, to Rs 5,112 per
quintal in 10,780 lots.
Jeera prices fell by another 0.16 per cent to Rs 13,747.50 per quintal in futures market today as
speculators indulged in reducing exposures amid expectations of higher sowing in producing region.
However, some export demand limited the downside. At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, jeera for delivery in October fell Rs 22.50, or 0.16 per cent to Rs 13,747.50 per quintal with an open interest of 5,394 lots.

In a similar fashion, the spice for delivery in September lost Rs 20, or 0.15 per cent, to Rs 13,595
per quintal with an open interest of 8,667 lots. It had lost 0.05 per cent in yesterday's session.
