The Yellow Metal Sizzled On Thursday

The yellow metal sizzled on Thursday, advancing nearly 2.5 per cent as Gold regained its safe haven appeal amid a flight from risky assets as investors fret over the health of the global economy with China mired in a steep slowdown while emerging market currencies nosedive.

Stocks from Asia to Europe and the US nosedived on Thursday as deepening concerns over slowing global growth unnerved traders, souring sentiment in equities and risky emerging market assets, boosting the safe haven demand for the precious metal. Citigroup cut its global economic growth forecast for 2015 for a third time to 3.1 per cent from 3.3 per cent amid currency weakness and China slowdown woes.

A weaker dollar also boosted the demand for Gold as an alternative asset. Weaker greenback makes the bullion cheaper for those holding other currencies, thus bolstering demand.

Dovish FOMC minutes suggested the case for a slight pushback in the policy tightening timetable in the US amidst weakness in inflation, bolstering the lure for the Bullion as a store of value.

While the Fed stressed that conditions which warrant rate tightening are approaching, policymakers are seeking more evidence of a pickup in economic growth and labour markets and need more confidence that inflation is moving towards the required goal, before deciding a lift-off in interest rates for the first time since 2006.

Gold may extend a rally today as a worsening China manufacturing slump and a steep slide in Asian stocks which hit a 17-month low spur safe haven demand.

At the MCX, Gold futures for October 2015 contract closed at Rs 26,849 per 10 gram, up by 2.49 per cent after opening at Rs 26,200, against the previous closing price of Rs 26,196. It touched the intra-day high of Rs 26,874.

Mcx Commodity Tips and updates for 9 July 2015

Mcx Commodity Tips : Scripting a smart rebound, the yellow metal bounced back on Wednesday as heightened turmoil in China’s equities and fears that Greece may be pushed out of the euro bolstered safe haven demand for Gold. China’s stock market rout showed no signs of easing with the Shanghai Composite bleeding nearly 6 per cent on Wednesday, defying government measures to arrest a near four-week slump in equities. Late Wednesday, China banned major shareholders from selling stakes in listed companies, the latest in a series of measures undertaken by policymakers that have included interest rate cuts to loosening of bank’s reserve requirements and suspension of new share sales to restore confidence in the country’s stock market that has eroded more than USD 3 trillion in value. Meanwhile, Greece has until Thursday night to submit fresh economic reform measures including spending cuts to press for a new bailout and convince European leaders to keep the cash-strapped country in the euro. Greece on Wednesday made an official request for a three-year bailout from Europe’s. The FOMC minutes which highlighted risks from Greece to China, to the US economy stressed that officials are awaiting a further evidence of stronger economic growth including a pickup in consumer spending before deciding to tighten policy. Gold may extend gains today on expectations of delayed US rate lift-off while awaiting Greece’s response to Europe’s calls for a wave of new reforms to win new bailout aid.
At the MCX, Gold futures for August 2015 contract closed at Rs 26,213 per 10 gram, up by 0.70 per cent after opening at Rs 26,008, against the last closing price of Rs 26,032. It touched the intra-day high of Rs 26,248 till the closing.

Crude Oil Futures Closed Bigger in the Domestic Market

Crude oil futures closed bigger in the domestic market on Wednesday as investors and speculators booked fresh positions in the energy commodity as a second straight drop in US crude oil supplies eased fears over a US supply glut. US crude oil stockpiles fell by 2.19 million barrels to 484.8 million barrels in the week ended May 8, 2015, the EIA reported. Meanwhile, gasoline supplies fell 1.1 million barrels, while distillate stockpiles slided by 2.5 million barrels. The International Energy Agency (IEA) raised its forecast for global oil consumption in 2015 by 50,000 barrels/day with world crude desired set to increase by 1.1 million barrels a day this year, or 1.2 %, to average 93.6 million barrels. The agency upgraded its forecast for Non OPEC output growth by 200,000 barrels per day this year amid “surprisingly strong” production in Q1 from the likes of Russia, China, Colombia, Vietnam and Malaysia. US retail sales were little changed in April, compared to expectations of a 0.2 per cent rise, signaling weakness in the world’s largest economy, clouding the demand outlook for the fuel, curbing gains in oil futures. Oil may fall today as IEA’s warning over escalating OPEC supplies and higher production from Non OPEC countries such as Russia may keep oil bulls quiet.

At the MCX, Crude oil futures, for the May 2015 contract, closed at Rs 3,909 per barrel, up by 0.57 per cent, after opening at Rs 3,900, against the last close price of Rs 3,887. It touched an intraday high of Rs 3,965 till the closing.

Jeera prices closed lower by 0.8 per cent on Wednesday at the National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange Limited (NCDEX) on account of a surge in the supply from the producing regions in the midst of a decline in the export demand. At NCDEX, jeera futures for May 2015 contract closed at Rs. 17,450 per quintal, down by 0.8 per cent, after opening at Rs. 17,585 against the previous closing price of Rs. 17,590. It touched the intra-day low of Rs. 17,345.

RESEARCH VIA DAILY COMMODITY REPORT FOR 17 DEC 2013

Precious Metals
GOLD  SILVER
                                                    D A I L Y B U Z Z
Gold prices fell 0.45 per cent to Rs 29,299 per 10 grams in futures trading today as participants reduced positions largely in tandem with a weak overseas trend.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, Gold for delivery in February next year eased by Rs 133, or 0.45 per cent, to Rs 29,299 per 10 grams in a business turnover of 371 lots.

Likewise, the metal for delivery in far-month April shed Rs 85, or 0.29 per cent, to Rs 28,814 per 10 grams in seven lots.

Analysts said a weak trend in the overseas markets amid speculation that Federal Reserve policy makers may decide to start cutting back asset purchases this week, and as a survey showed that holdings in exchange-traded products will contract further next year, mainly weighed on gold prices at futures trade.

Globally, gold fell 0.3 per cent to USD 1,234.90 an ounce in Singapore today.

Base Metals & Energy
COPPER  CRUDE OIL
                                                  D A I L Y B U Z Z
Crude oil futures prices fell by 0.53 per cent to Rs 6,002 per barrel today as speculators trimmed positions despite a firming trend in Asian trade.

Similarly, oil for delivery in January next year moved down by Rs 30, or 0.49 per cent, to Rs 6,059 per
barrel in 80 lots. Market analysts said trimming of positions by speculators mainly put pressure on crude oil at futures trade but a firming trend in Asian trade as investors focused on the US Federal Reserve's policy meeting this week for clues about its long-awaited stimulus pullback, capped the losses.

Globally, crude oil for January delivery was up 4 cents at USD 96.66 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange in mid-morning trade today.

Aluminium prices fell by 0.50 per cent to Rs 109.50 per kg in futures trading today as speculators offloaded their positions amid weak cues from global markets.

Besides, subdued demand in the domestic spot markets also weighed on metal prices. At the Multi Commodity Exchange, aluminium for delivery in December declined by 45 paise, or 0.50 per cent, to Rs 109.85 per kg in business turnover of 120 lots.

Similarly, the metal for delivery in January traded lower by 55 paise, or 0.49 per cent, to Rs 111.55 per kg in four lots.

Likewise, oil for delivery in January traded lower by Rs 3.45, or 0.50 per cent, to Rs 691 per 10 kg in 1,00,460 lots.

Analysts said speculators reducing positions due to subdued demand in the spot market against adequate stocks position led to decline in refined soya oil prices at futures trade.
