Base Metal tips -  Nickel futures fell during noon trade in the domestic market on Friday as investors and speculators exited positions in the industrial metal amid weak physical demand for nickel from alloy-makers in the domestic spot market.

Weak US economic data which showed that jobless claims rose last week and services growth hit a six-month low in November, signaled a slowdown in the world’s biggest economy also threatened to curb demand for the industrial metal.

The number of Americans who filed for claiming unemployment insurance benefits climbed 9,000 to 269,000 in the week ended November 28, while the gauge measuring US services fell the most in seven years, dropping to 55.9 in November from 59.1 in October, with a reading above 50 signaling expansion.

Base Metals & Energy For 17 June 2015

Gold futures succumbed to modest losses in the domestic market on Tuesday as investors and speculators stuck to a cautious approach as the US Federal Reserve began a two-day monetary policy meet. While the world’s top central bank is expected to stick to record low interest rates, it may offer some cues over the timing for a maiden lift-off since 2006. Being a hedge against the inflationary risk of monetary fillips, Gold tends to benefit from ultra-easy money policies from global central banks. A stronger dollar also curbed the demand for the bullion as an alternative asset. Stronger greenback makes Gold more expensive for those holding other currencies, thus dimming demand. Lingering worries over Greece as the cash strapped nation scrambles to reach a debt compromise with its creditors continued to support Gold’s safe haven appeal, trimming losses in Gold. Bullion may continue to trade on a subdued today as the Fed announces its monetary policy decision. At the MCX, Gold futures for June 2015 contract closed at Rs 26,956 per 10 gram, down by 0.27 after opening at Rs 27,011, against the last closing price of Rs 27,029. It touched the intra-day low of Rs 26,869 till the closing.

Base Metals & Energy Updates For 18 May 2015

ZINC

Zinc futures tumbled in the domestic market on Thursday, shedding more than 2.4 per cent, as investors and speculators sold off positions in the industrial metal amid tepid physical demand for zinc in the domestic spot market. Moreover, fears that a deepening economic slowdown in China, the world’s biggest consumer of the base metal, may curb zinc demand also spooked investors. New yuan loans issued by Chinese banks and financial institutions stood at 707.9 billion yuan in April, trailing analysts’ estimates of 903 billion yuan, underscoring weakness in the world’s second biggest economy. Other April indicators were also poor as manufacturing shrank at the fastest pace in a year in April while exports and import tumbled, and growth in industrial output, fixed-asset investment, and retail sales numbers missed analysts’ estimates. At the MCX, Zinc futures for May 2015 contract closed at Rs 146.55 per 1 kg, down by 2.43 per cent after opening at Rs 149.85, against the previous closing price of Rs 150.20. Domestic oil seed and edible oil close mix

Mcx commodity tips: Natural Gas traders exited positions in the energy commodity with prices of the weather-sensitive fuel ending lower by about 1 per cent in the domestic market on Tuesday amid concerns that an above normal supply build may erase a deficit to the five-year average. Analysts expect a 99 billion cubic feet uptick in US gas stockpiles last week, compared to a five-year average of 89 billion cubic feet. The EIA’s storage report is due on Thursday. However, weather forecasts remain supportive with above-normal temperatures across the eastern half of the US likely to bolster cooling demand for the fuel.
