DAILY COMMODITY REPORT FOR 16/SEPT/2013

Precious Metals

Continuing its slide, silver prices fell by 0.56 per cent to trade at Rs 51,401 per kg in futures trade today as participants engaged in reducing their positions amid a weakening trend in the global markets.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, silver for delivery in far-month March traded Rs 286, or 0.56 per cent, lower at Rs 51,401 per kg in a business turnover of 19 lots.

In a similar fashion, the white metal for delivery in December fell by Rs 265, or 0.49 per cent, to Rs 50,230 per kg in 1,248 lots.

Market analysts said offloading of positions by speculators following a weak trend overseas, before the US Federal Reserve meets to consider tapering its monthly asset purchases, put pressure on silver futures prices here.

Meanwhile, silver fell by 0.18 per cent to 21.70 dollar an ounce in Singapore today.

Buoyed by increased domestic demand, copper prices rose 0.33 per cent to Rs 460.75 per kg in futures trade today as speculators enlarged positions.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, copper for delivery in November traded higher by Rs 1.50, or 0.33 per cent, to Rs 460.75 per kg in business turnover of 3,742 lots.

The metal for delivery in far-month February edged up by Rs 1.15, or 0.25 per cent, to Rs 469.70 per kg in 97 lots.

Globally, copper for delivery in three months on the London Metal Exchange rose 0.3 per cent to $ 7,078.50 a metric tonne.

Market analysts said apart from increased demand at domestic spot markets from consuming industries, a firming overseas trend, mainly influenced copper prices at futures trade here.

Turmeric futures rose on Friday on bargain-buying, supported by hopes of a pickup in local demand in the festive season, while export demand also aided sentiment.

The most-actively traded turmeric contract for October delivery was up 1.68 per cent at Rs 4,966 per 100 kg on the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX) at 1017 GMT. It fell 7.6 per cent between Sept. 3 and Sept. 12.

"Some bargain buying is seen after the recent fall in prices. Local demand may pick up ahead of festivals," said Sudha Acharya, an analyst at Kotak Commodities. At Nizamabad, a key market in
Andhra Pradesh, spot turmeric edged up 26 rupees to Rs 4,968 per 100 kg.

Acharya expects the October contract to rise to Rs 5,040 in the near term. Jeera, or cumin seed, futures rose due to overseas demand while a pickup in the local demand also supported the upside.

However, higher spot supplies and prospects of better sowing capped the gains. Traders expect
jeera sowing to be better this season because of ample rains that have increased moisture in the soil.

Jeera is a winter crop sown from October. Farmers mainly depend on rains to moisten the land for sowing.

Precious Metals

                                                            D A I L Y B U Z Z
Gold fell on Thursday after a five-day rally that pushed it to its highest since mid-May, as concerns abated that U.S.-led forces would soon launch a military strike on Syria, while investors awaited U.S. data for clues on the Federal Reserve's next move.

The United States and its allies have been discussing possible military action against Syria in response to last week's deadly chemical attack, stoking safe-haven buying in gold.

Spot gold dropped 0.7 percent to $1,408.21 an ounce by 0919 GMT. It had gained nearly $70 an ounce in the five sessions to Wednesday to a 3-1/2 month high of $1,433.31.

The dollar rose 0.5 percent, while European shares recovered from a three-day selloff.

Brent crude prices fell below $116 a barrel after climbing to a six-month high on Wednesday. Gold, usually regarded as an inflation hedge, has benefited from soaring crude oil over the past few sessions, as this is one of the main components of the CPI headline inflation. Markets will be focusing on U.S. initial jobless claims figures and the revision to growth figures from the second quarter. Gold prices have risen nearly 8 percent this month, their biggest monthly climb since January 2012, after mixed U.S. economic numbers raised doubts that the Federal Reserve could be set to imminently curb its bullion-friendly $85 billion monthly bond-buying programme.

Lead futures today rose by 1.57 per cent to Rs 148.95 per kg as speculators created positions,  triggered by rising demand at domestic spot markets.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, lead for delivery in August traded Rs 2.30, or 1.57 per cent, higher at Rs 148.95 per kg, with a turnover of 2,261 lots.

The metal for delivery in September also rose by Rs 1.55, or 1.40 per cent, to trade at Rs 148.80 per kg, in a business turnover of 924 lots.

Nickel prices moved up by 1.51 per cent to Rs 955.40 per kg in futures market today as speculators
enlarged their positions on rising spot demand and a firming trend in the global market.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, nickel for delivery in August gained Rs 14.20, or 1.51 per cent, to Rs
955.40 per kg in business turnover of 1,935 lots.

Similarly, the metal for delivery in September rose by Rs 12.70, or 1.34 per cent, to Rs 964 per kg in 517 lots.

Agro Outlook

Turmeric prices fell further by 0.75 per cent to Rs 5,024 per quintal in futures trade today after  participants trimmed positions amid higher stocks but export demand limited the fall.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, turmeric for delivery in September declined by Rs 38, or 0.75 per cent, to Rs 5,024 per quintal in an open interest of 15,405 lots.

Similarly, the spice for delivery in October edged lower by Rs 34, or 0.66 per cent, to Rs 5,112 per
quintal in 10,780 lots.

Jeera prices fell by another 0.16 per cent to Rs 13,747.50 per quintal in futures market today as
speculators indulged in reducing exposures amid expectations of higher sowing in producing region.

However, some export demand limited the downside. At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, jeera for delivery in October fell Rs 22.50, or 0.16 per cent to Rs 13,747.50 per quintal with an open interest of 5,394 lots.

In a similar fashion, the spice for delivery in September lost Rs 20, or 0.15 per cent, to Rs 13,595

per quintal with an open interest of 8,667 lots. It had lost 0.05 per cent in yesterday's session.

MCX Commodity Tips ~ Gold, Silver, Copper, Crude Oil Updates Today 08 April 2013

Gold edged higher on Friday, as the dollar cut earlier gains against the euro and the yen and European shares dropped as investors anticipated potentially weak U.S. non-farm payrolls data.
The metal matched a similar pattern in other commodities, such as copper, further recouping heavy losses seen in the previous session, as investors refrained from taking large bets.
An improving growth trend in the United States has been a key driver for investors taking on more risk this year, but weaker-than-expected data this week on manufacturing activity and private sector hiring has suggested the momentum might be flagging.

Select base metal prices dropped further at the non-ferrous metal market here today on consistent stockist selling amidst weak demand from industrial users on back of lower London
Metal Exchange (LME) cues. Meanwhile, zinc and lead prices edged-up on better offtake from consumer industries.
Copper cable scrap and copper wire bar both declined by Rs 3 per kg each to Rs 474 and Rs 502 from Rs 477 and Rs 505.

MCX Commodity Market News Updates Today 28 March 2013

Bullion: Gold futures were trading up on the local bourses tracking the COMEX futures that came under pressure after investors booked profits ahead of the Easter holidays this week. In the short term, the gold price is likely to be driven largely by news of developments in Cyprus. Silver futures were down on local exchanges due to weakness in COMEX futures. On COMEX, silver futures fell tracking the weakness in base metals.

Metals: Base metals on MCX were trading lower tracking the same movement in the LME. Base metals are mostly lower on the London Metal Exchange Wednesday, drifting in thin trade as euro-zone jitters continue to depress investor sentiment.

Energy: Domestic crude oil futures were trading higher tracking gains in benchmark contracts on the New York Mercantile Exchange. The U.S. Energy Information Administration said commercial crude-oil stockpiles rose by 3.3 million barrels last week, surprising analysts that had expected a more modest 700,000-barrel increase and sending total stocks to a nine-month high of 385.9 million barrels.

NCDEX Agri Commodity Market (Pepper, Guar, Chana) Updates

Bearish tone continues to prevail at pepper futures as traders continue to book profit at higher levels after the rates shot up on firm International markets amidst pick up in export demand. However, the traders are expecting the exports and domestic demand to remain good and to pick up further in the Festive season.

Guar Seed futures are trading lower, suffering some profit booking after a good upmove in last session. Lower export demand from the US and other countries was weighing down the prices. However, reports of heavy rains in the growing areas of Rajasthan kept apprehensions of fall in productivity for the standing crop.

Chana futures
have gained some strength on reports of lower global production for pulses. Major producers for pulses namely Myanmar, Australia and Canada are likely to report a fall in pulses production due to adverse weather conditions. Back home, the festive demand too continued to support the rates at the lower levels.
