Govt to launch direct transfer of fertilizer subsidy

New Delhi: The government has decided to launch direct benefit transfer (DBT) system for fertilizer subsidy payments, said Mansukh L. Mandaviya in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.

Under the proposed system, 100 % subsidy on various fertilizer grades shall be released to the manufacturers and importers on the basis of actual sales made by the retailer to the beneficiaries, said the Minister of State (MoS) in the Ministry of Chemicals.

Initially, the modified subsidy procedure under DBT system will be introduced on pilot basis in 16 select districts and after its due stabilization, the new payment system would be rolled out in all states in the second phase. The proposed DBT will address the issues relating to diversion and smuggling of urea.

The proposed DBT for release of fertilizer subsidy to fertilizer companies has no direct link with landholding of the farmers. The fertilizers will be available to all on ‘no denial’ basis.

Base Metals & Energy Updates For 25 May 2015

Mcx commodity tips: Copper prices plunged in the domestic market on Friday as a stronger dollar took the sheen off the industrial metal by curbing demand for copper as an alternative asset. Stronger greenback makes copper more expensive for those holding other currencies, thus hitting demand. Further, a drop in German business confidence in the month of May 2015 signaled a faltering recovery in Europe’s biggest economy, darkening the demand outlook for industrial metals. The gauge measuring German business sentiment fell for the first time in seven months, dropping to 108.5 in May from 108.6 in April, the Ifo Institute reported. Copper may extend a drop today as investors fret over a 2015 US interest rate hike after Fed Chair Janet Yellen termed a 2015 rate hike as “appropriate”. At the MCX, Copper futures for June 2015 contract closed at Rs 396.50 per 10 gram, down by 1.58 per cent after opening at Rs 402.60, against the last closing price of Rs 402.85. It touched the intra-day low of Rs 394.65 till the ending.

Zinc futures plunged more than 1 per cent in the domestic market on Friday as investors and speculators exited positions in the industrial metal amid weak physical demand for zinc in the domestic spot market. Investors cast aside data which showed a pickup in growth in the world’s second biggest economy, boding well for the demand outlook for zinc. The China leading index climbed 1.1 % in April from March, when it rose 0.5% the Conference Board said. However, the report warned that “despite April’s gain in the Leading Economic Index for China, its 6-month increase rate continues to slow. At the MCX, Zinc futures for May 2015 contract closed at Rs 138 per 1 kg, down by 1.22 per cent after opening at Rs 140.10, against the last closing price of Rs 139.70. It touched the intra-day low-lying of Rs 137.30 till the ending.

MCX Commodity Market Report for June Month

The month of was May very dull for the investors as most of the asset classes gave negative returns in the equities or the commodities segment.

Precious Metals witnessed heavy selling in first half of the month. Silver prices plunged more than 30% while gold plunged almost 7%, after exchanges raised margin requirements to curb speculation.  However, prices did recover in the second half on buying support to lower levels.
Base Metals the trend was again down, with liquidation seen in all the metals taking support from the fundamentals of supply-demand equation. Aluminum prices closed with negative m-o-m returns for the first time in 6-month, while the prices of Lead & Zinc remained under pressure due to high inventory levels. other metals Nickel was the worst performer with losses of more than 10%, due to seasonal change in demand from the stainless-steel sector.
Energy Segment both Crude Oil & Natural Gas prices closed in negative. Crude oil prices fell close to $95 per barrel from above $115 per barrel in just 6-days. Natural Gas prices too were down, but losses were limited by a seasonal decline in drilling rig counts.

In the month of June 2011, we expect prices of precious metals to trade positively with buying support expected at correction in Gold, while silver prices are expected consolidate initially and then later it is expected to take direction from market forces. In the base metals, we see some recovery in Nickel prices after last month's correction, Copper & Aluminum prices are expected to consolidate, zinc & Lead prices are likely to consolidate. Crude Oil prices are expected to consolidate and Natural Gas, any changes in weather conditions in parts of US.

Overall, we see a good buying opportunity ahead in the commodities segment.
