MCX BASE METAL TIPS & AGRO UPDATE 03 MARCH 2014

Base Metals & Energy


COPPER
Tracking a firming trend overseas, copper futures prices rose by 0.14 per cent to Rs 443.70 per kg today as speculators enlarged positions.

Further, pick-up in demand at spot markets also supported the upside.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, copper for delivery in February up by 60 paise, or 0.14 per cent, to Rs 443.70 per kg, with a business turnover of 108 lots. Similarly, the metal for delivery in April traded 50 paise, or 0.11 per cent higher, at Rs 443.15 per kg, with a business turnover of 53 lots.

ZINC
Zinc futures prices today edged up by 0.12 per cent to Rs 129.65 per kg amid a firm global trend and better domestic demand, as speculators enlarged positions.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, zinc for delivery in February up by 15 paise, or 0.12 per cent, to Rs 129.65 per kg, with a business turnover of 68 lots.

The metal for delivery in March also rose by a similar margin to Rs 128.65 per kg in a business volume of 56 lots.

CHANA
Chana prices recovered sharply by by 2.97 per cent to Rs 3,261 per quintal in futures trading today as speculators built-up positions, driven by rising demand from dal mills at spot markets amid restricted arrivals from producing regions.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, chana for delivery in May spurted by Rs 94, or 2.97 per cent to Rs 3,261 per quintal with an open interest of 34,810 lots.

Also, the commodity for delivery in April up by Rs 92, or 2.95 per cent to Rs 3,210 per quintal in
85,220 lots.

CORIANDER
Supported by pick up in demand in the spot market against limited arrivals from producing regions, coriander prices rose by 2.60 per cent to Rs 9,546 per quintal in futures trade today as speculators enlarged positions.

At the National Commodity and Derivative Exchange, coriander for delivery in April rose by Rs 242, or 2.60 per cent to Rs 9,546 per quintal with an open interest of 43080 lots. Similarly, the spice for delivery in May gained Rs 242, or 2.55 per cent to Rs 9,724 per quintal in 28,760 lots.
